Firdaus Ashiq Awan’s Ludicrous Remark

July 4, 2010

I didn’t know this lady until the hoopla about Shoaib-Sania wedding. Shoaib Malik is from Sialkot. She is from Sialkot. And since she is the federal minister of population welfare so she thought it to be her cardinal duty to act as the Godmother to Shoaib’s future offspring by gifting the couple a family planning kit. A what?! Yes, nothing else but a family planning kit!

Fine! I forgot about her. But yesterday I came across another of her absurd remarks where she said on Geo TV’s program Capital Talk that two holidays a week will cause a population explosion as people will have no work. Wow! At first I laughed on that. The second time I sensed perversion. The third time that comment boggled my mind.

I wonder what class of society she was referring to. The labor class in Pakistan who live on daily wages can’t afford the luxury of two-day holiday anyway. Typically in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the labors take a day off on Friday only while the rest of the week they work. If our government seriously wants to implement the family planning practices then they should target the labor class in an effective and viable manner. But where is the connection between two holidays and population explosion and that too within the labor class? We need stats to prove theories. Her claim is as baseless as Pakistan’s government’s claim that daylight saving lessens energy consumption. If it were true the government would have followed daylight saving this year as well. If Firdaus’ comment was true then the labor class wouldn’t have 8-10 children per family when there was just one weekly holiday in Pakistan.

I tried searching about Firdaus’ background. All the search results led me to crude comments made by her in a television talk show this past September. It is hard to believe she is a doctor! If you are interested check out this video where she got involved in mudslinging with Kashmala Tariq. The political circus in Pakistan is never ending:

    ah…. these ministers..

You know..they are a different specie in themselves.. they all don’t know what to say..when to say and how to say irrespective of their countries.

A few months back.. one of the ministers here in India commented that couples who are glued to TV shows upto late nights have lesser children. 🙂

(i guess.. the government is going to provide free TV sets now as part of family planning programme :D)

This is so stupid, all this makes me feel sick about who I am sometimes… I could try and clsoe my eyes, and pretend not to be from pakistan, but it is my Identity, that is what I am and there is where I am from, but when I hear s absolute rubbish like this, it makes me feel so sick. Itw as like two actresses from lollywood, jinka aur koi kaam nahin hota, bus muabla karti hain and because they weren’t even educated they would be ike this. Today even the actresses and actors know how to talk better than these people, and these are the people leading our nation. Afsos

Hurray! PC and TV both in one. Why to invest in purchasing TV or provide extra space to keep it. Electricity consumption is another major factor.
