Asia Cup 2010
A new series has begun. Pakistan has got another chance to come back in swing before the World Cup. Today’s match was noticeable because of Shahid Afridi’s fine and sensible innings (109 of 76). It marked the return of both Shoaib Akhter and Shoaib Malik. Akhter’s return was fine (3 wickets in 10 overs with 41 runs and 1 maiden) except that he still struggles with his fitness but Malik (8 runs for 14 balls) needs to get in groove. He should remember that (good) cricket is the first and foremost thing he should be in the news for.
Salman Butt was out for naught. Shame! He’s got a plethora of experience on subcontinent wickets. Yet he failed to deliver.
Both the Akmal brothers got run out. Amazing! Pakistan is still struggling with basics like running between the wickets, coordination and fielding.
243 in 50 overs is pretty much getable score if most of the batsmen contribute towards the total. Unfortunately, that was’t the case.
Today was arguably Lasith Malinga’s day. His five wickets haul sealed Sri Lanka’s victory in that swinging match.
Let’s see how the series proceed.
PS: I liked the color and design of Pakistan team’s new kit. Hope they could perform too.
Addendum: Just read a Dawn Blog Ugly is the New Green today. The writer of that piece has slammed the color and design of the kit. First, I don’t see any problem with the color as long as it isn’t shocking and hard on eyes. Since I didn’t watch the match on TV so can’t tell whether it was or not. Second, who cares about the kit if Pakistan team performs well. Honestly, for a long time I found yellow in Australian cricket team’s kit horrendous but they are the true champions.
