Betta Fish

May 8, 2010

Today I was so upset about Pakistan’s loss against New Zealand in the crucial T20 World Cup match so when I went out to get the cat food, I bought myself this fish.

This kind is called Betta or Siamese fighting fish. It’s because they are aggressive in nature so two males can’t be put in the same bowl or tank. Even if you put them face to face in the separate bowls they might try to jump out of it to attack. I did see two males in separate jars trying to fight with each other. Given their aggressive nature I dropped the idea of getting a male fish. Since females are calmer so I got her.

Generally, fish have a short life span. This one has 14 days guarantee. So if she dies within 14 days. I can get my money back or can get a new one for the same price. I think next time I’d go for a Gold Fish because of it’s friendly nature.

I forgot to buy fish net and some extra fish food. It’s due on the next visit. I think it is not very cumbersome to take care of a fish and to clean the tank. By the way, this is my second pet in life. The first one was a green parrot that refused to learn a single word or become friendly so after keeping him for a year I set him free.

The cat’s so curious to see the fish but I won’t let him get close to her or else he’d create havoc. You know how cats are!

Yes, she is still unnamed. I can’t think of any name for her. Maybe I’d call her Betti, Cookie or Reddy (as Khamosh Dua suggested).
