Is Sania Mirza Marrying Shoaib Malik?

March 29, 2010

Today when I came back home the first news cum rumor I got from Twitter was that Sania Mirza was tying a knot with Shoaib Malik in April . Wow! That was one heck of a news. I mean can you really believe it? Yes, we have had weird matches in the past like Mohsin Khan (the ex Pakistani test cricketer) married an Indian movie star Reena Roy and not just that Mohsin did act (horribly) in a few Indian movies too.

Then Shoaib Malik apparently met an Indian girl named Ayesha Siddiqui online. Some suggested they had met in Dubai and the whole drama of Shoaib’s engagement with Ayesha kicked off. The Ayesha’s family threw a huge party for the whole cricket team when they were visiting India in 2005. Later on, the engagement was called off. Ayesha’s family claimed, they were married and that party for the cricket team was actually a ‘walima’. Shoaib claimed that he was shown a photo of another girl online while the girl he met was someone else and the family wasn’t honest about the whole thing.

In 2006, during an interview when the host of MatchBox (Geo News) asked Shoaib about his Indian engagement. He laughed sheepishly and brushed off the entire episode as a rumor. He said he wanted to marry that girl but his family never approved of it. So that’s how the entire thing ended.

Now in 2010, Shoaib’s name has been linked with the Indian Tennis sensation Sania Mirza. She was earlier engaged to a childhood friend Sohrab Mirza but their engagement was mutually called off due to incompatibility. Before that she was linked with an actor Shahid Kapoor for a brief time. Shahid called her his good friend.

I tried to search for the authenticity of the news online. I came across this link on Sify which basically quoted Pakistani news media.  And one by Deccan Herald which again mostly quoted Pakistani news channel report.

This news was broken by Jang group and Geo News. The News website carried this news:

LAHORE: Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik and Indian tennis star Sania Mirza are going to tie the knot in April, Sania’s father Imran Mirza confirmed to media.

As per reports, the two sports stars have been in an affair for the last six months, which had led to Sania’s earlier engagement to break.

Sources said that the mother of Shoaib Malik went to Indian city of Hyderabad Deccan where she met with the family of Sania Mirza and finalized Shoaib and Sania’s marriage.

This may be recalled that earlier engagements of both Malik and Mirza had come to an end.

Malik was engaged with Ayesha Siddiqui also from Hyderabad Deccan on June 3, 2002 while Sania on the other side was engaged with childhood friend Sohrab Khan which ended in January 2010.

The wedding ceremony of Shoaib Malik and Sania Mirza will take place in India while the valima reception will be hosted by Malik on April 16 or 17 in Lahore.

“I desire to get married soon. You will soon get some good news but it depends on my family. I fully expect to get married this year,” Shoaib had said in a recent interaction with the media.

Asked if it would be an arranged marriage, he said, “No can say what will happen, but it will take place with the concurrence of my family.”

You can also check the sensational news reporting by Times Now and quite weird reporting by Geo News.

I don’t know if that’s a true news so until Imran Mirza comes out and confirms this on the national television I would take it as a rumor. I don’t doubt their love affair but are six months enough to take such a big decision! The media on the other hand has already gone berserk with speculations like:

Reliable sources told Dawn that Malik’s involvement with Sania had a hand in the break up of her first engagement. In a recent interview, Malik had said: “I desire to get married soon. You will soon get some good news but it depends on my family. I expect to get married this year.”

I have no idea how much personally gratifying this step would be for Sania but it can dent her career and popularity (back home) a little bit.

Geo reported it weird because Shoaib Malik has transformed Aman ke Asha into Sania ke Asha 😉

Anyway why go through so many websites, shoaib himself updated at twitter that he is getting married to Sania but will Sania behave like IPL when it comes to real bidding that’s what public are waiting for.

*My fingers are crossed* because i don’t like both of them (yawn)

And now Sania tweeted on twitter that Shoaib Malik is fake! 😀

Wonder who is real or fake on twitter! By the way, Barkha Dutt is following Sania Mirza on twitter so I assume she might be the real one! 😐

Haha, yeah I read that tweet as well about Shoaib’s profile on twitter is fake coz he’s not even on twitter.. 😛

I wish the couple best of luck but I, like anyone else, can not speculate how long this relationship will last. This is just another issue which would create a tussle between India and Pakistan I think because like this blog, http://yello.pk/blog/sabafk/mirza-malik-decide-tie-knot/12381, states the contrasting scenarios in both the countries when this news was announced.

Ayesha is another ” Ruchika ” in diffrent version. Affected & Ruined by Brand name & Position holder. Technical error of Registration does not effect Relationship. Proofs shown by Ayesha’s Family in Media clearly shows Shoaib’s stand who constantly Ignores & Rejects like ” INDIAN DOSSIERS ” to ” PAK GOVT “. Ayesha is Ignored, Abused, Cheated, Dumped and Emotionally Raped by Shoaib and must be arrested for his Crime. People of India must forget Caste, Creed, Religion and support Ayesha for Justice.

Finally Shoaib saab showed his true colors by giving divorce to Ayesha and hence accepting the fact that he was previously married to Ayesha Siddiqui.. now that proves both him and his Bro-in-law Imran Zafar as liars !!

[and in many ways Mr. Malik tarnished the image of his countrymen too]

@Natasha: Hi ma’am.. I dunno wanna enter in any kinda debate with you at this platform.

I jus wanna put some issues straight:

    a) Its not my frustration but my understanding regarding this whole “Shoania” episode.

    b) I do not hate any nation per se.. because there are always some sane voices existing in every country.

    c) Does Ayesha’s demand of a formal divorce from her husband comes in the category of doing “Business” ??
Don’t you feel that you are using such statements for a woman jus because she is from India !!
Now why shouldn’t I consider this as your hatred towards a particular nation ??

You didnt read the link I gave you right? It turned out to be a 15 crore deal Sir. And all along she’d been saying she just wanted divorce THAT’S it. No money , nothing. And please stop this poor girl from India thing. Sania Mirza is an Indian as well.

I am not interested in who’s right and who’s wrong. All I know is that nothing is as simple as it sounds and you and me as mere observers should not jump to conclusions and generalize the whole nation based on those conclusions.

Your hatred is pretty evident. I am definitely not going to furnish any PROOFS regarding that. You know what you have in your mind.

    Take care.

ah.. so my comment was published !!
(i thought Ms. Ayesha blocked my comments when i was not able to post ’em up)

@Natasha: ma’am i’ve never used this “poor girl” thing regarding Ayesha/Maha Siddiqui.
i only want to say that if a man clearly says that he has not married to a particular woman in the presence of media personnels and openly declares that he had always considered Ayesha/Maha Siddiqui as “Aapa” (meaning: sister), then how come he is accepting to give divorce the next day to the same girl.

This clearly proves the eroded moral values of that man and he being the representative of a nation and a former captain of the national team of that nation….it surely affects the image of that nation too.
And when learned and sane individuals like you support such acts than it again gives negative vibes to others.

But now since the marriage is over.. i’ll only hope that Mr. Malik be loyal to his new-wife and be a very loving husband for her (Sania), for the lifetime.

*End of discussion from my side*
