Just a random question

October 13, 2009

yahooWhat is your browser’s homepage? Mine is Yahoo… since ages because back then I would only use Yahoo Mail and would log onto Yahoo Chat so both were easily accessible from the main page . Now I don’t have any special reason of keeping it as my homepage. It is just that I am used to it, so can’t think of any other site.

Sometimes I can’t believe the way I used to frequent Yahoo chat rooms. That too was ages ago btw, really it’s been 9 years almost. Once, after a long time, I tried logging into chat and can you believe it I couldn’t figure how to navigate. I was lost, besides, all that Indo-Pak bashing and cussing made me sick.

So I was thinking how our tastes and interests change with time. How we shun certain forums and adopt other? I often wonder how would I take my blog after 4-5 years from now? I like consistency but sometimes one gets fed-up without any specific reason. I hope this place wouldn’t turn into a ghost site πŸ™‚

I think the chances of this site turning into a ghost site are very low if you can keep coming up with posts like these. I can’t imagine ever writing a post like this. Some people just have the ability to make interesting posts out of pretty much anything.

I think your blog will evolve with you. I started one of my sites to write about interesting freeware I found on the internet. My interests changed and I began writing about designing themes for a blogging script I liked. Now I write about something slightly different.

Also the thing about writing on the web is that nothing goes to waste. It all gets indexed by google and the like and you’ll keep getting visitors even if you stop blogging.

You’ve pointed out a wonderful aspect of blogging. I agree, even today people come to my blog searching for something that I had written in the very beginning. I don’t know whether my post helps them or not but it feels great! πŸ™‚

      BTW, welcome to my blog!

Same was my enthusiasm for yahoo and msn and paltalk chat; there were phases when I’d chat for 10 to 13 hours a day and that perhaps is the time since I’ve formed a very close relation with the world of internet. But now its more than four years since I’ve called the internet chat quits and during the course of this time, blogging has interested me more perhaps due to the support it has given to my creative instincts.

I have to admit, though, that blogging too doesn’t fascinate me the way it used to, courtesy the frequent writers blocks besides losing connection with a few inspiring friends.

Oh, and I forgot to answer the question; I’ve the default home coz I like more to type the url’s. There’re a mere 20 or so sites as my bookmarks πŸ™‚

10 to 13 hours a day is way too much πŸ˜›

IF I had chatted that much with 40 Rs. / hour my balance would have been ended in two days.

But yes, chatting kept me hooked for a long time as well.

Blog relatively is a new arena for me. Especially my own blog. So I’m not bored yet but you never know!

I can fully understand this feeling of yours as I’m going through the same… besides losing connection with a few inspiring friends.

But then I keep telling myself that if I truly like writing, I would have to keep that inspiration alive within me no matter what. BTW, renowned and established writers inspire me as well πŸ™‚

My homepage has been BLANK since the beginning. Rest of the ‘suffer’ is similar…. mIRC, Yahoo messenger, AIM, MSN msngr, this chowk, dat chowk….. you name it & bmk ne try kiya hoga. I had this aadat of mentioning age with the screen name. so I started with _19… the silsila went till _24 non-stop. then the thing was disturbed when I was done with univ.

Besides, there would be interactions on various message boards. munh haath dhonay se pehlay I would check for new posts.
so bmk has been maaring khach on internet for quite some time. the game is still on. πŸ™‚

perhaps, it’s natural that interests change with the passage of time. remembering the difficult & expensive access then I wonder, what I would have done had access was this easy, cheap & fast like today. 36 hrs. a day baitha rehta.

I usually don’t mention age or birth year with IDs πŸ˜€

I have my favorite number at hand… ‘5’ so that is what I like using.

I remember those days of 40 and 36 Rs. per hour internet. It was so damn expensive. Now I take internet for granted. I don’t even bother to open a dictionary for checking out a word. I just search it online. The benefits of internet are immense. So I may not get bored of internet as a whole but yes, can’t say anything about other forums.

I too used to check my mails first thing every morning (as if I would get 100s of them :D). Most would be junk. In 99/2000 spam filters weren’t that efficient so I had to change my email IDs many times.

BTW, in those days, I used to click on every crap. Like ‘congratulations you’ve won the prize’ sort of crap and I think that was the reason of increased spam in my inbox πŸ˜€

  5. October 15, 2009 10:59 am

I have never changed default Home Page on Iexplorer. It is MSN on explorer and Google page on Firefox. I prefer Firefox for browsing, but I find Msn homepage to be very interesting on occasions as well.

Yahoo! Homepage recently has improved a lot and I seriously like it, since it is my default search engine as well.

If you talk about Yahoo chatrooms, I have not been to those for really long time and I was never a big fan of them anyway, but no it is not just you, the quality of chatters has also deteriorated there:P

I have used paltalk or MSN chatrooms in past, and I can still use MSN adapted chatrooms* around, it all depends what room you are in…

Blog won’t ever be boring, atleast for yourself, it contains your own expression/feelings, saved. Although, the way people expressing online is changing, due to popularity of social networks such as Facebook, where you have targeted audience, and are sure of comments/responses:P

    • October 22, 2009 4:27 pm

I have checked MSN homepage and I must say it looks interesting but never thought of regularly visiting it πŸ™‚

Blog never bores, I agree but some times I don’t know what to write and I hate this feeling.

I so miss yahoo chat rooms, its been ages seriously …

But some how I never came across Indo-pak bashing there… Although I did try to close down those Indo-pak hatred groups in Orkut … But was all went in vain.

    • October 22, 2009 4:29 pm

There are too many such groups popping up every day. I think like one can’t rid of spam or porn sites similarly one can’t shut down these groups or forums so it is better to stay away from them.

That hatred and madness amazes me some times. It takes lots of energy. No?
