Pushto Singers Quitting

March 16, 2009

Due to growing militancy and Talibanization in NWFP, many renowned artists – actors and Pushto singers are quitting showbiz because of threats to their lives.

Those who have quit so far are actors Alamzeb Mujahid, Said Rahman Shino, Ismail Shahid. Singers, Gulzar Alam, Nazia Iqbal and Gulraiz Tabassum. While Haroon Bacha has shifted to United States.

This is the death of Puhsto music industry.

PS: Last night I heard loud blasts. The paper says, NATO supplies were attacked again mentioning the staggering figure of 700 attackers. That seems a little exaggerated. The attacks continued for about 45 minutes, destroying all the vehicals parked there.

PSS: I am glad that the big clash has been averted with the order of reinstatement of CJ. I hope after assuming office he’ll take concrete steps on deciding the petitions related to missing people.

I wonder why don’t they stop supplying stuff to anti-muslim armies through Pakistan which is an Islamic republic?

I was even more surprised to know Iran has allowed passage of NATO supplies…this country always stood against the Western governments, what has happened to its ideology now?

Don’t know about Iran but US is considering Central Asian/Russian route for the NATO supplies. That would be long compared to Peshawar-Khyber-Afghanistan but at least they won’t suffer a loss.

And as for Pushto singers, for the time being they can migrate to Karachi and try to build a niche there.

They’re class acts; the names you mentioned but most of them wanted to earn quick money by opting to act in cheap cd dramas which you know don’t represent our true culture. It was sad to know of people like Alamzed Mujahid and even the big gun Ismael Shahid featuring in the ill directed vulgar dramas. Its of course not acceptable to forcefully stop them from doing what they want, though 😦

I know of such CD dramas 😦

Maybe at the end of the day they have quit for good.

    Sad to know that.
Reinstatement of Chief Justice has been a relief though ! 🙂

    A huge relief 😛

There was no stopping to all that mindless and vulgar stuff shown in CD dramas. People in the rural area may act wildly once in a while but you don’t see vulgarity in such abundance.
The whole CD drama thing was something not consumable by majority.

About Pushto singers, I guess you might have heard about Sajid & Zeeshan. Lambay is the first Pashto Rock song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y71_h3vxMQg

They should stand against injustice and do what’s right.
What’s the point of living if you are living in fear and bowing down to evil, if that’s the case there is no point of you living.

Bilish: I agree man but why don’t they separate the good from bad and ban the bad. I mean… forget it it’s a long debate.

Well… S&Z I know them very well and I am a fan of their music 🙂

Lambay is one of my favorite songs from them.

    @Ayesha
A much needed debate,I guess. No?
But by stopping all this, they are actually killing our richer cultural life, which off course can be enriched with proper content(CD dramas, music, etc). There was no such channel for correcting what they were showing, but it doesn’t mean you close doors for all.

I still remember characters from Pushto Dramas, PTV times. Awesome! 🙂 Signature stuff.

That’s what I meant. Allow the good work keep the really vulgar stuff under check and viola. Don’t kill the cultural activities.

do u really hopes associated with CJ? I dont 😐

It’s not about hoping that a single person will bring much needed change. But the signal (Long march, people in the streets) for our politicians was something that they should keep a record. Things can change…

Asma: I hope that the CJ would help produce the people who’ve gone missing for as many as 5-6 years and their families are still awaiting them. It’s such a miserable situation that thinking about it give me shivers 😕
