It happens only in Pakistan!

August 27, 2008

Blunder-istan should be the name of this country. Two months ago The State Bank of Pakistan issued new 5 and 50 rupees notes. I also posted the picture of one of the 5 rupees note (that I had got)… I didn’t notice one thing about it. It had only one serial number on the top right corner. (You can check July archives to see the photo). That was a major blunder and hence they have cancelled those notes.

I wonder why Shamshad Akhtar or any of her subordinates didn’t notice it when they were presenting the sample to Prime Minister. The image of same faulty note has been given on the official website of SBP. Here is the link:

So its a fault because if you have a bunch of Rs. 5 notes that are torn you can’t put them together? Just curious but what other reasons might there be?

Ayesha – have they explained why they have cancelled the notes?

I thought the coins were going around only in Rs.5.

The 20 ruppee note is most interesting.
I think they are copying the UAE dirham. Same style.

Because they had circulated (Rs.5) banknotes that had serial number only on the top right corner while usually it has serial numbers on both the corners (top-right and bottom-left) of the note.

Well Nadeen I am not sure whether they have redesigned 20 rupees note or what I find the picture different from the ones in circulation :S
