Follow up on Ahmed Faraz’s health

August 3, 2008

“Sunday, August 03, 2008
NEW YORK: Preparations are underway to transport ailing Ahmad Faraz on Sunday from Chicago to Toronto where he would be put on PIA’s direct flight to Islamabad.

Dr Iftikhar Nasim, a Pakistani-American specialists treating the renowned poet at a Chicago hospital, said on Friday that the poet was “well enough” to travel back home. He said the decision to allow him to return to Pakistan was made at the request of the members of his family who believed he would better recover in his home environment.

But he made it clear that the condition of 76-year-old Faraz, who has been under intensive treatment for multiple health problems, remained critical though stable.

Dr Nasim said that the Pakistan embassy in Washington had been providing all possible assistance to the poet and his family.

Faraz, accompanied by his sons — Shibli and Sarmad — and a male nurse, would be flown to Toronto from Chicago by an air ambulance, from where he would be put on board PIA. His nurse would accompany him all the way to Islamabad.

Dr Nasim said Faraz had shown some improvement in the last few days but because of the stroke he suffered, his right side was still weak. He opens his eyes, and he is not on a life-support system. His recovery may take many months, the doctor said.”

    We indeed are living in the poetical age of Faraz! His distinct expression along with his revolutionary ideas and charismatic persona stands him out. We adore him and he knows it when says;

    aur chahiye tujhe kitni muhabbatai’n Faraz!
    mao’n ne teray naam pay bacho’n ka naam rakh diya..

    Faraz has been shifted to my organisation for treatment. He is in High Dependency Unit at SIH. I might visit him a few moments later.

    Not that I’m totally impressed, but this is more than I expected when I stumpled upon a link on Furl telling that the info is quite decent. Thanks.
