Peshawar Bleeds (Again)

blast

I
O’ Peshawar
Your chest has been drilled with crater,
Your ears bleed with resonating boom
and moaning
Your eyes weep with the weeping people
Who search for their loved ones amid chaos
You have been beaten and bruised
With the flesh and blood of innocent victims
The victims: who reduce to smithereens and
become numbers 10, 30, 52

II
9th October 2009
The world is abuzz with
President Obama’s winning a Noble Peace Prize
While my beloved city chars with another bomb
The media hails Obama
While my beloved city crawls towards death inch by inch

III
Mullahs say we are fighting
Someone else’s war
Politicians in Islamabad say
We are fighting our own war
Amid the cacophony of statements
Pukhtoons are left to wriggle and die

IV
What happened to my land?
The land know as the city of flowers
What happened to the land of Rahman Baba and Sain Ahmad Ali?
Who are the ones who kill without remorse?
Are they Muslims?
Are they even humans?

Responses

  1. Excellent…the pain of what is going on in the city of flowers may not be put in more appropriate words.

    • The pain is unexplainable :(

  2. They are neither Muslim nor human :-(

    • I know! We can’t even call the animals because I believe even they have some sense of not harming their fellow animals.

  3. Hmmmm – That was touchy N heart breakin hmmm – AllAh mercy.

    • Mercy is all we are begging for!

  4. A good post!

I agree with Yasser, hard to call them humans after that.

    • Devil (or the devil incarnate) is the best term for them.

  5. It’s painful to see silently and lament at the bleeding city of ours….home town our beloved one….it’s blood all around and it’s bleeding like everything……

They are jerks, damn soul less people with frozen hearts….

    • I just wonder if the bomber is 12-19 years old. How could he believe that he’s going for a worthy cause by killing the innocent people?

They are better then any Manchurian candidate :|

    • Brain washing to the extent that they just cant feel or understand anything…..
      dead emotions and relations….

  6. Its touchy; one can feel the pain oozing out of these lines, the pain of every sane Pakistani, of every Pukhtoon and of every petal of the charred flowers of our florid land.

    • Peshawar (and NWFP) has suffered just too much post 2004. People ain’t feel safe anymore going out!

  7. I dont think we can ever understand how or what happens that pushes them to these extremes.

    • Well their brains are fed that they are going to do a great job … perhaps :|

  8. Hard times right now but things will change for the better.

    • Perhaps

  9. JazakAllah for this wonderful piece.

My hsuband told me while I was outside and I started crying when I heard about the altest bomb…

Allah hamari maddad kare aur jo log yeh kar rahay hain, unko hidayat de, aur agar hidayat nahin lete to Allah unhe iski sazaa de:(

    it hurts so badly…

Someone said, Lahore, Karachi and islamabad are alsoa aprt of Pakistan, but yeah, my peshawar is my home, it hurts in my heart and makes me so depressed, sometimes I wish i wsnt here to witness it, gone with one of those bombs..:(

    • It is very unfortunate and I am speechless!

  10. my mind is simply not able to work who is really behind this, Muslim cannot do this :-(

    • My mind isn’t working either!

    • think deep…….
if muslims can’t do this then who is mastermind? if muslim can’t cut the head of another muslim then wo has the courage? who is the one wants to bring down muslims? who is the one wants to vanish islam? who is doing research on quran and its meaning?
who has found facts and figures?

      Think?????????????

  11. Yasser , Muslims HAVE done this. The point is , who is pulling their strings.

    • I quite agree with you!

    • not exactly …

  12. nice depction of da current situation….

    • I hope not to write such gory poems again :(
